LITTLE PEOPLE BEHIND TINY DOORS SOON ON LOCAL NATURE WALKS

LITTLE PEOPLE BEHIND TINY DOORS SOON ON LOCAL NATURE WALKS

There are little people in Campbell County! They can be found behind tiny doors under very dignified trees in state parks on adventure walking trails!

Soon the gnomes and their trees can be discovered using a cell phone GPS map with a bar code. All this adventure is the creation by Campbell County youth under the guidance of schools and Campbell Culture Coalition, a 501(C)(3) with a mission to uplift our rural community image and enhance possibilities for our youth.

The Coalition is seeking funds to create an outdoor walking trail of artfully decorated gnome doors - art created by youth and installed at select tree species in public spaces in our county. School students will imagine, design, build and paint doors; create and write a story about each gnome "living behind the door". Tech savvy youth will assign each door a QR code that through cell phone use displays a gnome biography and field guide description of the tree. They will also develop a GPS map of the entire trail.

This project is designed to offer children, their families and friends an exciting outdoor adventure in a safe and natural environment with a twist of fun, art, and technology. Children who have daily exposure to woodland have better cognitive development and a lower risk of emotional and behavioral problems, according to a new study published in Nature Sustainability.
